About Us

A community-driven movement transforming neighborhoods through grassroots environmental action and civic engagement.

LocalCleanup is a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that organizes free monthly volunteer cleanup events across 5+ neighborhoods in San Diego County. Founded in 2024, 62+ volunteers have collected 335+ pounds of trash through 9 community events. All supplies are provided and everyone is welcome.

What Are Community Cleanups?

Community cleanups are organized volunteer events where groups of people gather to remove litter, debris, and waste from public spaces like streets, parks, sidewalks, and waterways. LocalCleanup San Diego hosts free cleanup events every third Sunday of the month, rotating through neighborhoods across the city to maximize our collective impact.

Each event typically lasts about two hours, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM Pacific Time. We provide all necessary equipment including gloves, grabber tools, trash bins, and hand sanitizer. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome, and children under 12 can participate with a parent or guardian.

LocalCleanup is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 33-2413132). All events are free, and 100% of donations go directly to program supplies for volunteers.

Our Story

What started as a single cleanup at North Park Community Park in 2024 has grown into a countywide movement, partnering with organizations like Dharma Bum Temple and The Humane Society and serving neighborhoods across San Diego. We provide all supplies, keep things simple, and welcome everyone regardless of age, ability, or experience.

Our philosophy is rooted in direct action. We believe the most meaningful environmental work starts with what's right in front of you: the park you walk through, the street you live on, the block your neighbors share. When people show up and invest in a place together, the space gets cleaner, and the community gets stronger. That's what we mean when we say "Cleaning What We See, Reflecting What We Are."

LocalCleanup is open to everyone and always free to join. Whether you can give twenty minutes or two hours, there's a place for you. Grab a bag, meet your neighbors, and help us build a cleaner San Diego one cleanup at a time.
