Hillcrest is a vibrant, walkable San Diego neighborhood celebrated for its inclusive community, diverse dining scene, and proximity to Balboa Park. The area is the heart of San Diego's LGBTQ+ community and hosts the annual San Diego Pride parade along University Avenue. Hillcrest's busy commercial corridors attract heavy foot traffic from residents, visitors, and Balboa Park tourists, which contributes to litter accumulation along sidewalks and in public spaces. The neighborhood's weekly farmers market and thriving nightlife scene generate additional waste that benefits from regular volunteer cleanup attention. Hillcrest's position adjacent to Balboa Park means that litter on its streets can migrate into one of San Diego's most visited green spaces. Community cleanups in Hillcrest help maintain the welcoming atmosphere that makes this neighborhood one of San Diego's most popular destinations.
