University Heights is a historic San Diego neighborhood with roots dating back to the early 1900s, originally home to a trolley line that connected residents to downtown. Today the area is known for its walkable village feel along Park Boulevard, its community garden, and a mix of early-century Craftsman homes and apartment buildings. University Heights sits between North Park, Hillcrest, and Normal Heights, giving it a central location that benefits from strong community engagement. The neighborhood's quiet residential streets and canyon-edge lots attract residents who value a slower pace within an urban setting. Canyon borders mean that windblown litter can travel into natural areas if not collected, making street-level cleanup efforts especially important for protecting local habitat. Keeping the tree-canopied streets and small parks clean helps preserve the neighborhood's charm and livability.
