Our Mission Bay cleanups focus on the walking and biking paths, picnic areas, and shoreline access points throughout the park. We rotate between different sections including Fiesta Island, Vacation Isle, and the eastern shores.

What kind of litter is found at Mission Bay?

Mission Bay sees recreation-related litter including picnic packaging, plastic utensils, beverage cans, fishing line, bait containers, and single-use plastics from water activities. Windblown trash from parking areas is also common.

Is Mission Bay accessible for volunteers with mobility needs?

Yes. Mission Bay has paved paths and flat terrain throughout most of the park, making it one of our most accessible cleanup locations. We can assign volunteers to paved routes upon request.

Does Mission Bay litter reach the ocean?

Yes. Mission Bay connects directly to the Pacific Ocean through a channel near the jetty. Litter in the bay can float out to sea, making cleanup efforts here important for ocean health.

Are Mission Bay cleanups good for families?

Yes. Mission Bay's flat paved paths, restroom facilities, and picnic areas make it one of our most family-friendly cleanup locations. Many families combine a cleanup shift with a picnic or park visit afterward.
