About Clairemont

LocalCleanup hosts free monthly community cleanup events in Clairemont, San Diego every 3rd Sunday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. No experience needed and all supplies are provided.

Clairemont is a large residential neighborhood in central San Diego, originally developed in the 1950s as one of the city's first master-planned suburban communities. The area is home to Tecolote Canyon Natural Park, a 900-acre open space with hiking trails that runs through the neighborhood. Clairemont's family-oriented streets, schools, and recreation centers serve a diverse population of long-time residents and newer families. The neighborhood's proximity to both Pacific Beach and Mission Bay means it sees pass-through traffic that contributes to roadside litter along major corridors. Litter in Clairemont tends to accumulate along Clairemont Drive and Balboa Avenue, as well as at canyon trailheads where natural areas meet residential streets. Cleanup volunteers help keep this large residential community and its natural spaces clean.

Key landmarks near cleanup areas: Clairemont Drive, Tecolote Canyon, Clairemont Town Square, Cadman Community Park, Balboa Avenue.

Clairemont Cleanup FAQ

Common questions about volunteering with LocalCleanup in Clairemont.

Where do Clairemont cleanups take place?
Our Clairemont cleanups cover areas along Clairemont Drive, Balboa Avenue, neighborhood parks, and trailheads near Tecolote Canyon. We rotate between different sections of this large neighborhood.
What litter is common in Clairemont?
Clairemont sees litter typical of suburban areas including fast-food packaging, beverage bottles, plastic bags, and illegally dumped items near canyon access points. Major road corridors see the highest litter volumes.
Is Clairemont close to other cleanup neighborhoods?
Yes. Clairemont borders Pacific Beach, Mission Bay, and is near La Jolla and Mira Mesa. Its central location makes it easy to volunteer in several nearby communities.
Are there canyon cleanups in Clairemont?
We occasionally include Tecolote Canyon trailhead areas in our Clairemont cleanups. Canyon cleanups require sturdy shoes and focus on trails and trailhead parking areas rather than steep off-trail terrain.
Are Clairemont cleanups suitable for students?
Yes. Students from Clairemont schools regularly attend our events to earn community service hours. We provide documentation of participation for school and scholarship requirements upon request.
